Singapore (Commonwealth Union)_ With one of the world’s most robust economies and a reputation for quick and remarkable economic growth, it is no wonder why Singapore is regarded as one of the top destinations for enterprises. As part of the new initiative that was launched recently, enterprises aiming to achieve Singapore’s important economic goals will be temporarily permitted to recruit some extra foreign workers than the current limits for their industry, benefitting Indian workers to get into top Singapore industries.

As part of the newly announced Manpower for Strategic Economic Priorities (M-SEP) initiative, these companies, which are credited with keeping Singapore competitive, can request to hire more S Pass (Special Pass) and work visa holders than their present permissible numbers. Upon authorization, their numbers for foreign employees on either pass will be increased by up to 5% of their current base workforce, with a maximum of 50 extra workers, for a period of two years at a time that is renewable.

The majority of Singapore’s foreign workers are from Asian nations, such as India, Bangladesh, China, and the Philippines. It was also noted that eligible companies can apply for the M-SEP through the Ministry of Manpower. Tan See Leng, Minister of Manpower, said: “With the reduction in the quotas… that would come in next year, we wanted to provide enterprises that are very innovative, have made significant investments, and very firm internationalization plans to ensure that they also have the complementary foreign manpower to help them.”

According to MOM and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the M-SEP complements the improvements that MOM is making to Singapore’s work permit system by promoting the growth of firms that contribute to Singapore’s key economic goals. Previous official statements and media reports indicate that manpower-short Singapore is actively looking for the world’s finest talents.
