Singapore’s first maritime drone delivery infrastructure established!

Singapore (CU)_ Skyports, an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) startup, and Jurong Port have inked a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish maritime ship-to-shore drone delivery infrastructure in Singapore. According to the joint statement from the companies, the MoU is a major step towards the development of large-scale drone delivery operations in Singapore and enhances Skyports’ existing work in the marine sector of the nation.

Skyports is a prominent developer of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) infrastructure and a provider of drone delivery services, whereas Jurong Port manages Singapore’s sole multipurpose cargo port. According to the companies, the MoU will also focus on Skyports’ global expertise in constructing take-off and landing infrastructure for cargo drone deliveries in order to examine how drone delivery technology might be incorporated into the current logistics and cargo operations of Jurong Port in Singapore.

Yun-Yuan Tay, head of Asia Pacific, Skyports, expressed optimism over the maritime drone delivery services. Skyports and Jurong Port will conduct cooperative research over the next year to examine the possibility and future plans for cargo drone delivery operations and associated infrastructure at Jurong Port. According to the corporations, the testing would be conducted concurrently with normal port operations. Additionally, Skyports will also discuss with appropriate public sector organizations, authorities, and commercial entities in order to advance the development of crucial regulatory frameworks for the implementation of large-scale cargo drone delivery services.
