NTU was ranked No.1 for the newly established Condensed Matter Physics and Physical Chemistry courses this year. NTU’s Materials Science and Nanoscience & Nanotechnology departments were ranked first for the fifth and second years in a row.

Furthermore, NTU also secured places in the global top ten for the following subjects: Electrical & Electronic Engineering (2nd), Energy & Fuels (2nd), Engineering (2nd), Chemistry (3rd), Computer Science (4th), Chemical Engineering (5th), and Optics (9th), which is a new field included in this year’s rankings. Additionally, the other NTU courses that performed well and secured places in the ranking report include Civil Engineering (12th), Polymer Science (16th), Mechanical Engineering (27th), Environment/Ecology (54th), Arts and Humanities (88th), Biotechnology & Applied Microbiology (82nd), Microbiology (83rd), and Physics (86th).
NTU’s excellent international and regional research expertise helped the university move forward in the worldwide rankings of the US News & World Report. Since the inception of US News & World Report rankings in 2014, NTU has so far risen a total of 92 spots from the 125th position.
Professor Ling San, Deputy President and Provost of NTU, expressed pride over the accomplishment and he attributed the success to the faculty and staff of the university. He said, “This marks the fourth consecutive year that NTU has been ranked in the global top 50 of the US News & World Report’s rankings. Much of this success is due to the university’s faculty and staff who have shown a strong commitment to excellence in research, education and innovation. The Singapore government’s strong support has also been instrumental in NTU’s drive towards excellence.”
