Sri Lanka (Commonwealth Union)_ Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation, the nation’s premier insurer, observed World Children’s Day by offering a generous gift to commemorate the occasion. Specifically, SLIC is extending free life insurance coverage of Rs. 1 million to the parents of every child born on October 1, 2023, an initiative that spans across the entire nation. This remarkable Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program was first introduced in 2022 with the primary aim of safeguarding the future of the country’s children. Recognizing the significant positive impact it has had on the community, SLIC has chosen to continue this initiative into the year 2023.

As the leading insurer of the nation and an honorable corporate entity, Sri Lanka Insurance has undertaken numerous projects with the objective of enhancing the well-being of the communities it serves. SLIC’s CSR strategy revolves around three key pillars: Child Education, Community Development, and the Preservation of Culture for future generations, all of which contribute to the socio-economic sustainability of the nation.

Chandana L. Aluthgama, the Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Insurance, emphasized the organization’s deep commitment to the welfare of children, extending beyond mere financial protection. He noted that, given the current challenging economic conditions that necessitate a safety net for all citizens, universal insurance coverage is imperative. Hence, the introduction of this unique initiative will provide free life coverage for children born on World Children’s Day 2023. Additionally, SLIC has introduced various insurance solutions, such as the ‘Minimuthu‘ product range and the ‘School Fee Protector‘ education plan, to ensure uninterrupted educational opportunities for children. According to him, as an organization, SLIC is dedicated not only to insuring the lives of children but also to nurturing their dreams and safeguarding their aspirations, both now and in the future.

Ronald C. Perera, President Counsel and Chairman of Sri Lanka Insurance, underscored the significance of securing the future of the nation’s children, affirming it as a shared responsibility of all citizens. In this light, SLIC has assumed the role of a responsible corporate citizen by extending a free life coverage offer to the parents of all children born on World Children’s Day in Sri Lanka. To mark this exceptional initiative, a special event was hosted at Castle Street Hospital, which was attended by SLIC’s corporate management.
