However, with strategies and effective study skills, they can archive their desired goals with confidence. Certain techniques and preparations are proven to help secondary school students with their exams.

Time management is known to be one of the most critical study skills. A timetable should be formulated by students, indicating the revision subjects and the time allocated for each subject. The allocations should include rest relaxation and breaks, as well as other responsibilities and social activities. Students should determine their most productive time of the day and plan their studies around these times. Time management will ensure that all topics are covered, improve retention and reduce stress.

Another positive exam preparation skill is Active reading. The concentration is more on the text, rather than reading through the subject material. Actively highlighting key points, taking short notes and using their own words as they summarize.  This method helps the student to identify the main concepts and themes, helping them to expand the points as they sit for the exam.

Practicing with past papers is an excellent way to help the student to understand the type of questions that they may be tested on and the exam format. This will also help them to identify the areas for improvement and built effective exam strategies, such as prioritizing questions while writing and time management.

Specially for subjects such as biology, history and literature, memorizing techniques will assist immensely. Various memorizing techniques such as acronyms, mnemonics and visual aids, can be used to retain important information, such as studying the periodic table in chemistry.

Group study is proven to be an effective way to prepare for exams. Sharing expertise and knowledge, learning from one another and asking questions can improve and extend a student’s knowledge. It also supports a social network that will relieve stress and anxiety. However, the study partners have to be focused and motivated to ensure productivity.

Prioritizing self – care is important and the final preparation method. This generally means eating healthy, physical activity and proper sleep. It also involves breaks between study time and body relaxation, such as yoga or meditation. Self – care will improve concentration and focus, promoting overall well – being.
