As per National Institutes of Health center for complementary and integrative health, green tea is one of more than 1000 verities of tea and is a beverage or dietary supplement which promotes to improve mental alertness, weight loss, reliving digestive symptoms and headaches.

         It comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, leaves from the plant are steamed, pan fried and dried to produce green tea.

             Carol Johnston, PhD, RD professor of nutrition at Arizona state University says, theirs are numerous clinical trials demonstrating the regular consumption of green tea has a measurable health effect. Such benefits include reduces bad breath, improves brain functions, boost metabolism and fewer gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms.

              A healthy bioactive compound such ah polyphenols can be found in green tea, polyphenols are natural compounds, great to reduce chronic disease and inflammation.

         Uma Naidoo, MD, director of nutritional and lifestyle psychiatry as Massachusetts general hospital says green tea is rich in several powerful antioxidants like L- theanine and EGCG

               According to research L- theanine is helpful in relieving stress disorders, getting better sleep and improving your mood.

   Naidoo says, the beverage also protects against cancer, helps with anxiety and helps to reduce body fat- especially around the waist.

When green tea is consumed as a beverage, it’s believed to be safe, when used in amount up to 8 cups per day, said by the national institutes of health center for complementary and integrative health.

                  Green tea contains caffeine, which is a compound known for stimulating the central nervous system. By consuming too much caffeine can cause headaches, insomnia, dehydration, dizziness and dependency.

             Green tea has about 28 milligrams of caffeine in 8 ounces of brewed liquid or 19 milligrams in the same amount of a ready-to-drink bottle form, as per the Maya clinic. The Brewed amount is significantly less than the 96 milligrams of caffein per 8 ounces of brewed coffee, but more than the 22 milligrams of caffeine found in 8 ounces in cola.

      Naidoo says beyond being careful with green tea’s caffeinated content, it’s also wise to be mindful of empty calories from adding sugar to the beverage. Since each person has a unique gut microbiome, not all healthy food agrees with everyone’s body and mind, but if green tea agrees with your body and mind, then enjoy by drinking a few cups a day.
