Mumbai, India (CU)_ Brett Lee, the Australian fast bowler and cricketer-turned-commentator, has come forward to help India in its battle against the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic. He has followed the footsteps of his fellow Australian pacer Pat Cummins who donated $ 50,000 to PM Cares Fund to meet the oxygen demand in India. Brett Lee, who is 44 years old and is currently in India for the IPL 2021, took to Twitter and declared that he will donate one Bitcoin to India to help with the procurement of oxygen supplies for hospitals across the country. One Bitcoin amounts to roughly 4,095,991 Indian Rupees.

Lee expressed his love for India and said that India is much close to his heart and is more like a second home to him. He tweeted, “India has always been like a second home for me. The love and affection that I have got from the people of this country both during my professional career and even after my retirement, holds a special place in my heart. It saddens me deeply to see people suffering due to the ongoing pandemic”.

Lee continued, “Now is the time to be united and ensure we do as much as we can to help the ones in need. I’d also want to thank all the frontline workers who have been working round the clock during these tough times. I request people to please take care, stay at home, wash your hands and head out only if absolutely necessary, wear a mask and maintain social distancing. Well done Pat Cummins for the initiative yesterday”.

The second wave of the pandemic has struck India hard, with over 3.23 lakh new coronavirus cases as of Tuesday. In the last 24 hours, India has seen 2771 deaths. India has been getting a lot of international assistance due to a severe shortage of medical supplies. On Tuesday, 100 ventilators and 95 oxygen concentrators were delivered from the United Kingdom.
