The Best Dog Toys, According to Our Pups

-

Giving your dog a new toy is a natural selection experiment. No matter how adorable or expensive it is, there’s a chance that your dog will ignore the new toy or quickly rip it to pieces, leaving it for dead in either case. The toys that our dogs have determined to be suitable for hours or even years of entertaining, aggressive, and adorable play are presented here as the survivors.

Use this list as a guide since dogs have their own preferences and like diversity. We advise giving the canines in your life a few to test out for themselves whether you’re getting ready for a new puppy or putting together a gift.

Pit bull Bone, who weighs 40 pounds and is 6 years old, enjoys retrieving and gnawing on tennis balls, but he quickly shreds them apart. Similar in size to a regular tennis ball, the Chuckit Ultra Ball in medium is constructed completely of rubber. She can gnaw on it for a while (under supervision) because it’s harder to chew through; the balls have lasted for up to a year. Additionally, compared to other tennis balls, the Ultra Ball bounces more on turf, making fetch games more entertaining. Even in tall grass, it is visible thanks to the vivid orange color. She can also fetch the Ultra Ball from a lake because it floats in water.

Sutton, a Chihuahua mix who weighs 8 pounds and is 1 year old, may spend hours running around the apartment and squeaking whatever she can find on days when she still has plenty of puppy energy from playing at the dog park. Even though I may be the worst pet owner ever, the constant squeaking can be irritating. The fact that Hear Doggy’s ultrasonic squeaker toys use squeakers set to an ultrasonic frequency between 24 and 28 KHz—which is quiet to humans but yet generates a delightful noise for dogs—made me pleased to learn about them.

People may think that the squeaker has stopped working and that only a small amount of trapped air is being released, but dogs evidently still find this to be their favourite toy. It’s entertaining for Sutton and a lifesaver for my ears when she squeaks this item, as she does with her other squeakers.
