The case of the White House bust of Winston Churchill

There was a melo drama with President Joe Biden removed the bust of Winston Churchill from the oval office and replaced him with more era appropriate busts such as Latino civil rights leader Cesar Chavez, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., Robert F. Kennedy, Rosa Parks and Eleanor Roosevelt.

This was seen by certain American conservatives as disrespectful since it was Obama who had initaially taken the bust down. Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, said it was because President Barack Obama “probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather.”

The brits didn’t take this very well either Boris Johnson who was only the Mayor of London blamed this on Obama being part Kenyan and therefore his ancestors hated the british empire. Of couorse these attack to the Past president was racist and also untrue as it was kept outside of Treaty Room where he could see the bust in his personal time. Obama as he does addressed this whole situation of the bust snub and stated that “I love the guy There are only so many tables where you can put busts. Otherwise, it starts looking a little cluttered.”

Trump on his arrival to the oval office bought the bust back and it made the brits very happy to see churchill in the oval office it was also coincidental that Theresa May the then Prime minister of Englad was also Trumps first foreign visitor to the Oval Office.

Johnson is not taking the same attitutde as May did with the removal of Chirchill, he still hopes to have stronger relations with the Biden administration and the removal of a bust is not going to stand in the way of it. “The Oval Office is the President’s private office, and it’s up to the President to decorate it as he wishes,” a Downing Street spokesman said on Thursday. “We’re in no doubt about the importance President Biden places on the UK-US relationship, and the Prime Minister looks forward to having that close relationship with him.”
