Valletta, the capital city of Malta, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Mediterranean. The city was founded in 1566 by the Knights of St. John, who were looking for a new base after their previous stronghold, Fort St. Angelo, was besieged by the Ottoman Turks. Valletta was designed by the Italian architect Francesco Laparelli, who was commissioned by the Grand Master of the Order, Jean Parisot de Valette. The city was built on a peninsula between two natural harbors, Grand Harbour and Marsamxett Harbour. Valletta is a walled city, with a series of bastions and fortifications that were designed to protect the city from attack.

The city is laid out in a grid pattern, with wide streets and open squares. The main street, Republic Street, runs through the heart of the city and is lined with shops, restaurants, and cafes. Valletta is home to a number of important historical buildings, including the Grandmaster’s Palace, the St. John’s Co-Cathedral, and the Upper Barrakka Gardens. Valletta is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city, with a rich history and culture. The city is a popular destination for tourists, who come to admire its stunning architecture, its lively cultural scene, and its delicious food.

Valletta is a beautiful and historic city with a population of around 5,700 people. It is the smallest capital city in the European Union and is home to a number of universities, including the University of Malta and the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology. Valletta is also a popular filming location and has been used in films such as “The Count of Monte Cristo” and “The Da Vinci Code.” The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its “exceptional universal value” as a “unique example of a fortified city built by the Knights of St. John.”

If you are planning a trip to Malta, be sure to add Valletta to your itinerary. The city has something to offer everyone, from its stunning architecture and rich history to its vibrant cultural scene and delicious food.
