The Prime Minister offers Ramazan relief package

Islamabad, Pakistan (CU)_ Pakistan’s new Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a relief package during the Ramazan month. Ministers and provincial secretaries from throughout the country were present as he unveiled the package at a meeting with a number of newly appointed cabinet members.

Under the package, a ten-kilogram bag of wheat flour would be sold for Rs 400, down from Rs 550 before. Additionally, the prime minister reduced the price of sugar by Rs 5 per kg. Accordingly, one kilogram of sugar will now cost Rs 70, down from Rs 75 before. These supplies will be offered at reduced prices till Eidul Fitr in Ramazan bazaars and utility stores.

PM Sharif further urged other provinces to attempt to fix similar tariffs in order to bring relief to the public and urged Punjab to assist the governments of Balochistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in this endeavor. He added, “The federal government would make additional payments to the Balochistan government”.

Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi, the UAE’s Ambassador to Pakistan, made a courtesy call to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and congratulated him on his appointment. The envoy emphasized the UAE’s commitment to further enhancing the bilateral ties. The prime minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to advancing the economic dimension of the relationship, with the aim to achieve increased trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, food security, and job creation.

The PM stated that Pakistan and the UAE have long had special relationships that are firmly anchored in shared history, shared faith, and geographic closeness, and that these relations have been bolstered by close people-to-people contacts. PM Sharif recognized the critical role of expatriate Pakistanis in the growth of UAE’s, noting that they act as a strong link between the two countries.
