London, United Kingdom (CWBN)_ Stella Tennant, the aristocratic British model and one of the leading popular catwalk models and cover-stars of the 1990s, died on Wednesday at the age of 50. The statement from her family said, “It is with great sadness we announce the sudden death of Stella Tennant on 22nd December 2020. Stella was a wonderful woman and an inspiration to us all. She will be greatly missed.” Stella Tennant celebrated her 50th birthday on December 17, days before her death.

In her successful modeling career spanning more than two decades, she had closely worked with numerous leading fashion houses such as Chanel, Versace and Valentino. She was a source of inspiration in the modelling industry and was a muse of designer Karl Lagerfeld, where she was announced as the new face of Chanel.

Police Scotland said they were called to address the death of a 50-year-old woman in the town of Duns in the Scottish Borders. The police said there were no doubtful circumstances to the supermodel’s death.

Tributes from all over the world poured in for Stella Tennant. British Vogue mentioned in the tribute that Stella posed for their cover in 2018, remembering her 25 years since she first appeared in the magazine in 1993 when she was 22.

Fashion house Versace took to Twitter to pay tribute to Stella Tennant. It tweeted: “Versace is mourning the death of Stella Tennant. Stella was Gianni Versace’s muse for many years and friend of the family. We will miss you forever Stella. Rest In Peace.”

Fashion designer Marc Jacobs shared his message in social media. He wrote, “From the first time I met Stella I was completely blown away. Her beauty, style and body language combined with her manners, kindness, sense of humour and personality were like no other. … My condolences to David and her family. What a terrible, heartbreaking loss.”

Stella Tennant hails from an aristocratic heritage. She was the grand-daughter of the 11th Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, Andrew Cavendish, and his wife Deborah Mitford, who passed away in 2014. She married David Lasnet, a French photographer-turned-osteopath. The couple are parents to four children.
