The Trailblazer, Returns Home…

-

Africa ( Commonwealth Union) _ Chief Raymond Anthony Aleogho Dokpesi, born on October 25, 1951, is a pioneer and trailblazer who has made significant contributions in various sectors of the Nigerian economy. He began his journey in the indigenous shipping business, where he played a pivotal role in shaping policies that allowed Nigerians to participate in a sector dominated by foreign lines.

Despite the short lifespan of Africa Ocean Lines, the first indigenous shipping line in Africa, Dokpesi’s enterprising spirit remained unyielding. The setbacks he faced in joint entrepreneurship, particularly when dealing with individuals who sought to dominate and exploit others, served as a valuable learning experience and motivated him to succeed against all odds.

In the 1990s, the promulgation of the National Broadcasting Commission Decree presented an opportunity for private participation in broadcast journalism, which was previously dominated by the government. It was during this time that Dokpesi, despite not having a media background, ventured into the broadcasting industry. This move was met with surprise, considering the government’s stance on independent media voices. Additionally, acquiring funds for businesses with long gestation periods was a significant challenge. However, Dokpesi persevered and made remarkable strides in the broadcasting industry and public life in Nigeria until his recent passing.

Dokpesi was an influential figure in the Nigerian mass media industry, founding DAAR Communications, which gave birth to Raypower radio stations, Africa Independent Television (AIT), and a satellite television network. AIT’s signals were launched in the United States in 2003 and can now be received in various countries across America, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa. This expansion reflects Dokpesi’s ambition to make a global impact and leave a lasting legacy.

Throughout his career, Dokpesi was known for his multitasking abilities and his commitment to nurturing and mentoring talents. He was also renowned for his generosity and willingness to extend a helping hand to those in need.

While the inevitability of life and death applies to every individual, Dokpesi has left behind a rich legacy that will be remembered by future generations. His contributions to the broadcasting industry and his impact on public life in Nigeria have secured his place as a beacon of light in the mass media sector.
