Australia (Commonwealth Union)_ Vivek Chaand Sehgal, a distinguished billionaire entrepreneur, has earned recognition not only in India but also in Australia. At 66 years old, he serves as the chairman and co-founder of the renowned Motherson Group, a business empire with a remarkable revenue of USD 10.5 billion (equivalent to approximately Rs 86,180 crore). His substantial wealth has positioned him as the wealthiest Indian in Australia.

In 1975, Sehgal established the company, originally dedicated to silver trading, alongside his late mother, Shrimati Swaran Lata Sehgal, thus giving it the name Motherson. Apart from his leadership role in the Motherson Group, he also oversees Samvardhana Motherson Group, an influential auto parts manufacturing division under the Motherson umbrella. As of July 15, 2023, Forbes estimates Sehgal’s net worth at an impressive USD 4 billion (approximately Rs 32,830 crore), ranking him at the 740th position among the wealthiest individuals worldwide.

Back in 2021, he secured the 49th spot on India’s richest list, as per the rankings compiled by the esteemed magazine. His principal source of affluence stems from the renowned Samvardhana Motherson International, formerly known as Motherson Sumi, a prominent player in the auto parts industry. In addition to his business endeavors, Vivek Sehgal is a family man with two children. One of his children, son Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, serves as a director on the boards of both Samvardhana Motherson International and Motherson Sumi Wiring India.

Vivek Sehgal possesses Australian citizenship and earned his graduation degree from Delhi University. In recognition of his remarkable entrepreneurial accomplishments, he was honored with the prestigious EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award in India in 2016. Further, he established Motherson Sumi Wiring India, a successful joint venture between Sumitomo Wiring System and the Motherson Group, which has emerged as a leading player in the Indian wiring harness industry. Notably, the group boasts an impressive clientele, including prominent automotive manufacturers such as BMW, Ford, Mercedes, Toyota, and Volkswagen.
