Health Secretary Sajid Javid spoke about the new treatment followed in the hospitals. He said, “We have secured a brand new treatment for our most vulnerable patients in hospitals across the UK and I am thrilled it will be saving lives from as early as next week”. He added, “The UK is leading the world in identifying and rolling out life-saving medicines, particularly for Covid-19, and we will continue our vital work to find the best treatments available to save lives and protect the NHS.”
According to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, the clinical trial data it reviewed indicated that Ronapreve may be administered to prevent infection, treat symptoms of severe illness, and decrease the probability of hospitalization. Trials were conducted prior to the widespread roll out of vaccination and the development of viral variations. The medication became the first monoclonal antibody combination treatment to be authorized in the United Kingdom for the prevention and treatment of acute viral infection.
Monoclonal antibodies are synthetic proteins that function in the immune system similar to natural human antibodies. According to the agency, the medication, created by Regeneron and Roche and formerly known as REGN-Cov2, is administered through injection or infusion and works on the respiratory system’s lining, where it binds securely to the virus and stops it from infecting cells.,
