Europe UK (Commonwealth Union) – According to a recent study, a novel drug called zilebesiran may offer a promising solution to lower persistent high blood pressure for an extended period of up to six months following a single injection. This breakthrough could potentially revolutionize the way high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is managed, providing a more convenient alternative to the current routine of daily tablet intake.

The inability to control hypertension, can often lead to many health issues and even organ failiure.

One of the major challenges in treating high blood pressure is ensuring that patients adhere to their prescribed medication. Unfortunately, over half of the patients with hypertension fail to take all of their medication as directed, leading to inconsistent blood pressure control. This lack of adherence increases the risk of severe health complications such as stroke, heart attack, and premature death.

However, if zilebesiran proves to be successful, it could greatly improve the management of hypertension. By requiring only, a single injection every six months, patients may find it easier to stay on track with their treatment, ensuring more consistent blood pressure control and reducing the likelihood of severe health risks.

An international team, in collaboration with experts from the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Cardiovascular Science, conducted early-stage clinical trials at four locations in the UK.

During the trials, patients who were administered zilebesiran experienced a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure, which measures the force with which the heart pumps blood around the body. Remarkably, this reduction in blood pressure lasted for up to six months.

High blood pressure fluctuates naturally throughout the day, making it challenging to manage effectively. However, the study revealed that the blood pressure reduction observed in patients treated with zilebesiran remained consistent over a 24-hour period. As the research progresses, this innovative drug may offer a more convenient and effective approach to managing high blood pressure, benefitting individuals worldwide.
