Warning to low-quality producers in Australia’s billion-dollar industry

However, the sector is expected to be on the forefront in global efforts to slash carbon emissions, as the steel industry accounts for about 7 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions across the world. Accordingly, miners are turning to hydrogen made from renewable energy as a potential substitute for the metallurgical coal that is usually burned in the steel-making process.
