(CU)_ Iron ore currently remains the largest single export of Australia, worth about $150 billion during the 12 months leading up to the end of June this year. However, the sector is expected to be on the forefront in global efforts to slash carbon emissions, as the steel industry accounts for about 7 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions across the world. Accordingly, miners are turning to hydrogen made from renewable energy as a potential substitute for the metallurgical coal that is usually burned in the steel-making process.
