Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, advised Americans to receive Covid vaccines immediately, warning that delta may emerge as the dominant coronavirus strain in the United States. Walensky during a media interview said, “As worrisome as this delta strain is with regard to its hyper transmissibility, our vaccines work. If you get vaccinated, you’ll be protected against this delta variant”.

The delta strain recently surpassed alpha strain in the United Kingdom and emerged as the main strain in the country. In the United Kingdom, the delta variation now accounts for more than 60% of new cases. Last month, the World Health Organization designated delta as a variant of concern. According to the World Health Organization, a strain might be classified as “of concern” if it proves to be more infectious, lethal, or resistant to existing vaccines and treatments.

Officials from the World Health Organization stated that there have been reports that the delta variant shows more serious symptoms, and further research is required to corroborate those findings. There are also indications that the delta strain may cause symptoms that are different from those caused by other strains. Ms Swaminathan stated that further information on the variation is needed, particularly its impact on the effectiveness of Covid vaccinations.

CureVac, a German business, identified the new variant as the main cause why their Covid vaccination only proved to be 47% successful in a 40,000-person clinical study this week. According to a study by Public Health England, two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech or AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines are extremely effective against hospitalization from the delta strain.
