Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world

-

Dhaka, Bangladesh (CU)_ Bangladesh celebrated International Women’s Day along with the rest of the world honoring the achievements of women, creating awareness against bias, and promoting gender equality. The United Nations Women have named the 2021 International Women’s Day as “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal Future in a Covid-19 World.”

Every year on March 8, International Women’s Day commemorates the women community and their attempts to gain equal rights. Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s women’s day celebrations across the world will be little different. To commemorate the day, various groups have devised comprehensive plans that adhere to health and social distancing guidelines.

Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, the Speaker of Bangladesh parliament, said on Sunday that women’s leadership is important in addressing the negative effects of Covid-19 in Bangladesh. On this year’s International Women’s Day, five inspiring women will be honored and awarded with the “Joyeeta Award.”

In honor of International Women’s Day this year, a three-day film festival began at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday. The festival featured six movies directed by women directors and honored them. President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina delivered their messages on the International Women’s Day and wished and lauded the women all over the world.

Special programs on women were broadcasted on Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, and all other private television channels, and newspapers released supplements and articles highlighting achievements of women and the importance of the day.
