AFRICA ( commonwealth Union ) _ World Bank hopes to establish a presence in the Seychelles, a senior official at the mid of 2023. Ida Pswarayi-Riddihough, the bank’s country director, made the remarks to reporters after speaking with Wavel Ramkalawan, the president of the Seychelles.

Psawarayi-Riddihough stated that we are looking to start obviously very small but it will help us to maintain a much smoother dialogue, to hear what Seychelles desires, to open the conversation to other stakeholders, and to be able to offer answers in an easier manner.

The World Bank Group is an international collaboration of five organizations that works to find long-term fixes to end poverty and promote shared prosperity. It offers 189 member nations financial and technological support. Psawarayo-Riddihough further stated that there were two main objectives for this mission to Seychelles; the first was discussion about how to improve the country partnership framework, which governs the work that we do and ends this year.

The second goal is to carry out prior projects that the World Bank has been working on with Seychelles. These projects have involved social protection problems, especially those that have to do with teen pregnancy and how to keep kids in school.

The world bank government said that this is something that we find to be really essential, especially with COVID, where many children dropped out and the question is whether they will return? How can we get them to return if they don’t, so the nation can keep developing?

She continued by saying that the World Bank would be considering legislation to make it simpler for kids to return to education. She also discussed the contradiction between the Seychelles’ 15-year-old consent age for sexual activity and the country’s 18-year-old entry age for contraceptives. Agriculture and food production, tourism, and fisheries were also addressed.

The World Bank aims to aid Seychelles in all these areas, not just financially but also technically and through analytics. The World Bank has been helping Seychelles with its welfare reform since March of last year. The three-year project’s goal is to modernize the system, guaranteeing coordinated and targeted actions for those who are truly in need.
