Writers Union: Fed Court has no jurisdiction

New York, USA (CWBN)_ The Writers Guild of America informed Judge Andre Birotte Jr. of the California Federal Court that the court does not have jurisdiction to issue an injunction against a lawful union action as per the 1932 labour law, the Norris-LaGuardia Act.

The injunction was issued by Judge Birotte in the course of a case filed by the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and Endeavor Group Holdings (WME), against the writers union for causing irreparable damage to harm to the business. The two companies claimed it was high time that the 18-month long case came to a close.

In the past, CAA and WME brought anti-trust charges against the WGA, however the defence sought a dismissal of the case on grounds of legal labour exemptions from anti-trust proceedings when workers attempt to collectively improve their working environment.

The significance of the case was apparent following a rare statement of interest made by Trump appointees in the Department of Justice, advising the judge to take a narrow approach to labour exemptions.
