Punjab, India (CWBN)_ Former Indian cricket player Yuvraj Singh on his birthday showed his support to the protesting farmers. Today, the former cricketer took to Twitter to declare that he wanted a swift settlement of the continuing dispute between farmers and the central government rather than celebrate his birthday this year. Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh made statements supporting the sportsmen returning their awards to the government to show their support to the farmers. But Yuvraj distanced himself from his father’s comments.

Yuvraj Singh posted several messages in support of farmers in his Twitter account. In one of his statements, he said, “undoubtedly, farmers are the lifeblood of the nation and I believe that the problem could be resolved through peaceful dialogue”.

Yuvraj Singh shared another note in Twitter, where he said, “Birthdays are an opportunity to fulfil a wish or desire and this birthday, rather than celebrating, I only wish and pray for a swift resolution of the ongoing talks between our farmers and our government”.

In another note, Yuvraj Singh commented about his father’s remarks. He said, “I am saddened and upset by the statements made by Mr Yograj Singh. I wish to clarify that his remarks have been made in an individual capacity and my ideologies are not the same in any manner”.

Yuvraj made this comment after Yograj Singh urged the central government to pay attention to the farmers’ demands, and endorsed the athletes who returned their awards to demonstrate respect for the protesting farmers.

Yograj Singh had earlier said, “Farmers are demanding the right thing, the government should listen to them. It is really high time that the government should come up with solutions in this regard and I back all those sportspersons who are returning their prestigious award”.

Boxer Vijender Singh and Former national boxing coach Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu are among the sportsmen who joined farmers’ protest and are returning their awards if the new farm laws are not dropped.

Finally, Yuvraj Singh  reminded people that the Covid-19 ” pandemic is not over yet,” and concluded his declaration urging people to take measures to combat the spreading virus. At the end, he  added the slogan, ” Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan! ” Jai Hind.”
