(CU)_The lost Church of the Virgin of Dolores, which was submerged more than 40 years ago has now resurfaced, as the waters of a central lake in Mexico dried up.

The 19th-century church first disappeared in 1979, as a result of the construction of the Purisima Dam, ordered by then-Mexican President José López Portillo, after another dam burst six years earlier, about 15 miles away. The project flooded 1,200 hectares and covered the town of El Zangarro, in in central Mexico. Some sources suggest that the church could in fact date back 100 years earlier to the 18th century.
