2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N to electrify roads

-

(Commonwealth)_ Much-anticipated 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is set to make its debut this month, hitting the market with a starting price of $67,475. This high-performance electric vehicle (EV) promises not only an exhilarating driving experience but also introduces Hyundai’s prestigious N treatment to its electric lineup.

Standing out in the realm of electric performance, the Ioniq 5 N boasts an impressive 641 horsepower in its all-wheel-drive configuration. The powertrain is equipped with exclusive features, including a drift mode, an overboost function (N Grin Boost), and an innovative “e-Shift” feature that simulates gearchanges. During a firsthand drive event at the Korea International Circuit, the Ioniq 5 N showcased its capability to deliver not just performance but a thrilling ride.

With a starting price of $67,475, the Ioniq 5 N positions itself as the most expensive model in Hyundai’s lineup, underlining its status as a flagship electric vehicle. This price tag places it between its high-performance relatives within the Hyundai Motor Group – the 576-horsepower Kia EV6 GT, starting at $63,000, and the 483-horsepower Genesis GV60 Performance, priced at $71,000.

The pricing strategy emphasizes the Ioniq 5 N as a premium offering, with a cost that is $24,000 more than the base rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 5 and $9,000 higher than the top-spec Limited version with a 320-horsepower all-wheel-drive configuration. Despite the premium pricing, the Ioniq 5 N’s unique features and high-performance capabilities position it as an attractive option for enthusiasts seeking an electric vehicle designed to excel on the track.

Diving into the specifics of the Ioniq 5 N’s enhancements, it boasts an electric powertrain capable of generating up to 641 horsepower when the overboost function is activated. The inclusion of a larger 84.0-kWh battery pack ensures ample power for the track, while upgraded Brembo brakes provide enhanced stopping power. The Pirelli P Zero three-season tires contribute to improved traction, and the vehicle’s dimensions have been altered, with a 0.8-inch lower ride height and a wider and longer frame, measuring 2.0 inches wider and 3.2 inches longer than the regular Ioniq 5.

Noteworthy features that set the Ioniq 5 N apart include a drift mode, perfect for inducing oversteer and delivering an exciting driving experience. The Torque Drift Kick system adds to the thrill, simulating the sensation of a clutch dump. The N e-Shift function replicates the feeling of an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, providing drivers with a more dynamic and engaging experience. For those who appreciate the auditory aspect of driving, the N Active Sound+ adds artificial gas-engine noises to enhance the overall driving sensation.

In the broader context of the Hyundai Motor Group’s offerings, the Ioniq 5 N faces competition from within its family. The Kia EV6 GT, boasting 576 horsepower, appeals to performance-oriented EV enthusiasts and comes with a starting price of $62,975. On the luxury end, the Genesis GV60 Performance, while not as powerful as its counterparts, commands the highest price at $70,900. The Ioniq 5 N, with its balance of power, features, and pricing, positions itself in the middle ground, offering a compelling choice for those seeking a high-performance electric vehicle.

As the Ioniq 5 N prepares to enter the U.S. market later this month, it symbolizes Hyundai’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle technology. The vehicle not only caters to performance enthusiasts but also contributes to the ongoing evolution of Hyundai’s electric lineup, establishing a new standard for high-performance electric vehicles. With its combination of power, innovation, and a touch of luxury, the Ioniq 5 N is poised to make a significant impact in the competitive electric vehicle landscape.
