£28 million loan to help build a new hotel in Titanic Quarter

Hotels (Commonwealth Union) _ The Northern Ireland Investment Fund (NIIF) has extended a £28 million development finance loan to support the establishment of a new hotel in Belfast’s vibrant Titanic Quarter. Administered by CBRE’s lending team, this substantial loan is earmarked for the JMK Group, driving forward the development of a 228-bed hotel strategically located near the Titanic Exhibition and SSE Arena. This ambitious project is poised not only to contribute significantly to Belfast’s hospitality landscape but also to the local job market, with an estimated 130 employment opportunities on the horizon. During the construction phase, 60 jobs are anticipated, and upon completion, the operational hotel is expected to generate 70 full-time positions.

The Hamilton Dock hotel project represents a pivotal investment, aligning with the broader revitalization goals of Belfast’s Titanic Quarter. The infusion of £28 million from NIIF underscores the fund’s commitment to fostering economic growth and rejuvenation in key areas of the city. This financial backing is particularly noteworthy, marking the largest loan provided by NIIF since its inception. The fund’s recent expansion from £100 million to £150 million positions it to play a crucial role in supporting impactful projects that contribute to both economic and community development.

Herbin Duffield, Director at CBRE, expressed the strategic importance of NIIF in addressing market challenges, especially in the wake of pandemic-induced disruptions and fluctuating interest rates. The loan provided for the Hamilton Dock hotel project is seen as a proactive step to overcome constraints in debt liquidity and supply in the hotel development sector in Belfast.

Zain Kajani, Director at JMK, welcomed the funding support and emphasized the significance of breaking ground on the JMK Group’s inaugural hotel in Northern Ireland. This venture not only expands the group’s hotel portfolio in the UK and Republic of Ireland but also aligns with their commitment to sustainability and forward-thinking approaches.

The Hamilton Dock hotel, with its 228-bed capacity, promises to be a notable addition to Belfast’s hospitality offerings, complementing the allure of the Titanic Quarter. As Belfast continues to evolve as a dynamic destination, this hotel development is poised to make a lasting impact, providing a blend of economic stimulus and enhanced visitor experiences.
