Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque

The image of Brunei that stands out the most is the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan. The mosque, which looks out over the Brunei River and Kampong Ayer, is surrounded by an artificial lagoon-shaped reflecting pool. One of Brunei’s top Instagrammable sights is this.

Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque

The second of Brunei’s grand mosques sits a few kilometres from the city centre. With the title as the country’s largest mosque, it’s a favourite stop on short itineraries to Bandar Seri Begawan. But because of its size, you might have difficulties finding the perfect photograph!

Kampong Ayer

Kampong Ayer consistently ranks among Brunei’s top tourist destinations because it offers an experience that is unmatched worldwide. A maze-like network of wooden boardwalks connects more than 40 smaller communities that make up the medieval floating hamlet. Within Kampong Ayer, 13,000 people lived in homes with their own schools, mosques, and retail establishments. To get to the largest stilted village in the world, inhabitants and visitors can take speedboats for about B$1 ($0.66 USD).

Bandar Seri Begawan Waterfront

The Waterfront, which hugs the Brunei River’s banks, is the perfect location for a relaxing evening stroll. This is our preferred location to take pictures of Kampong Ayer, aside from the views of the river and Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque.

Istana Nurul Iman

The Istana Nurul Iman is officially the largest home in the world with over 1,800 rooms. A short drive from Bandar Seri Begawan’s city center will take you to the Sultan’s palace. Admiring the huge size and splendor gives you an idea of the Sultan’s wealth and makes it a popular destination for day trippers. Except for during Hari Raya, visitors are not permitted inside. Take pictures from the park or neighboring river.

Royal Regalia Museum

Visit the Royal Regalia Museum after viewing the palace to see his collection of gifts. The free museums provide a look into the opulent lifestyle of a Sultan, from a massive chariot used in his silver jubilee to many jewels and gold pieces.
