Mumbai (Commonwealth Union)_ Veteran actor and politician Kamal Haasan visited long-time friend and fellow superstar Rajinikanth ahead of officially taking oath as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha. Haasan shared photos from the meeting on his official X account. The images showed Kamal presenting his official appointment order to his friend Rajinikanth along with a bouquet. The two legends also exchanged a warm hug, capturing a moment that fans have widely shared online. “Shared the beginning of this new journey with my friend @rajinikanth. Feeling elated,” Haasan wrote in the caption.

To convey his wishes to his friend Haasan over his political victory, Rajinikanth also took to social media and penned, “My dear friend @ikamalhaasan, who will be taking office as a member of the Rajya Sabha — heartfelt congratulations to him”. The meeting between the two icons, both celebrated for their decades-long careers in Indian cinema and more recently for their political involvement, has stirred excitement across social media platforms.

Kamal Haasan, founder of the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) party, was elected without any objection to the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu. He was among six candidates nominated by the DMK-led alliance, which had allocated a seat to Haasan as part of a prior political agreement. The official oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for July 25, 2025. Back in June, Haasan filed his nomination for the biennial Rajya Sabha elections. The event took place at the State Secretariat in Chennai, where he was accompanied by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin, and senior MNM leaders. A statement from the MNM headquarters revealed that he will take the oath of office on July 25.

On the film front, Kamal Haasan was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s action-drama Thug Life, which hit theaters on June 5. Currently, he is collaborating with director S. Shankar on Indian 3, and he also has an upcoming project with the action duo Anbariv. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is gearing up for his next release, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, which is set to arrive in cinemas on August 14. Reports also suggest he may collaborate with Maharaja director Nithilan Swaminathan for a future project.
