His Tamil film Apoorva Raagangal, directed by K. Balachander, debuted on August 15, 1975, and introduced a growing star to audiences who went on to become one of India’s most popular performers. Marking the occasion in grand style, Rajinikanth’s latest film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, hit theatres on August 14 and witnessed packed theatres, continuing the actor’s long streak of box office successes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the nation in applauding Rajinikanth’s five-decade-long cinematic journey. In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister called Rajinikanth’s career “iconic,” praising the actor’s versatility and the deep connection he has built with audiences across generations. “Congratulations to Thiru Rajinikanth Ji on completing 50 glorious years in the world of cinema,” the PM wrote. “His journey has been iconic, with his diverse roles leaving a lasting impact on people across generations. Wishing him continued success and good health in the years ahead,” he added.
