The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, addressed the Constitution Day celebrations organised by the Supreme Court of India in New Delhi on November 26, 2025. She paid homage to the founding fathers who created the world’s largest written constitution for its largest democracy.

The President said the Constitution is the source of the world’s largest republic, which embodies unity in diversity and establishes equality against historical disparities. It stands as a catalyst for peaceful social, economic, and political revolution, and it guarantees individual dignity and national unity. She termed the Constitution our national text and added that living by its enshrined values is our national duty for institutions and individuals. We can indeed feel proud of the growing confidence in the Constitution among even the common people, as the question “What does the Constitution say?” has become the standard for judging appropriateness.

Smt Murmu said that public participation and representation at large have made the Constitution a reference book for the people. For linking the future generations, she also proposed a child-friendly constitution to be drafted with the joint efforts of constitutional experts and children’s authors, which will help the children imbibe the constitutional ideals at an early stage for making a good personality.

The President reaffirmed confidence in the parliamentary system adopted by the framers. She stressed the need for the three organs of government – the executive, legislature and judiciary – through mutual coordination to continue strengthening the constitutional system. The coordinated effort, she said, would benefit the citizens and accelerate India’s goal of becoming a developed nation.

Finally, the President said that justice should be delivered at doorsteps just like other public services. She urged access to easily available legal aid at the grassroots level and called for continuous, untiring efforts to provide justice to all citizens.
