PA Media: Peter Mandelson was inducted into the House of Lords 18 years ago, in 2008. This occurred while he was serving as a labour minister.

Police are currently reviewing reports of alleged misconduct in a public office after Lord Mandelson was accused of sharing sensitive government information with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

This comes after the Scottish National Party (SNP) and Reform UK shared that they had reported the peer to the police. Meanwhile, separately, the Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru, and some Labour MPs have also called for the police to investigate.

Email communication exchanges released by the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) seem to reflect that Lord Mandelson forwarded information to the disgraced financier when he was the previous business secretary 17 years ago, under former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown in 2009.

Lord Mandelson has not yet responded to requests for comment about the rather serious allegations.

Metropolitan Police Commander Ella Marriot shared that they were aware of the further release of millions of court documents. This was related to Jeffrey Epstein and involved the United States Department of Justice.

Following this news release and subsequent media reporting, the Metropolitan (Met) has received several reports relating to alleged misconduct in public office. These reports are to be reviewed to determine if they meet the criminal threshold for investigation.

Marriott said that the Met would assess and investigate any new and relevant information.

A government spokesperson shared that it is right for the police to determine whether to investigate. The government, meantime, stands ready to provide whatever support and assistance the police may need.

Earlier, Downing Street had shared that Sir Keir Starmer believes that Lord Mandelson should not be a member of the House of Lords or use his title.
