Sri Lanka (Commonwealth Union)_ Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram has described Sri Lanka as one of the most beautiful countries he has ever visited, saying the island deserves to be recognized among the world’s top holiday destinations. Speaking at the Softlogic Life investor forum held at Cinnamon Life in Colombo, the cricket legend shared his admiration for Sri Lanka’s landscapes, culture, and tourism potential. Akram, who was recently appointed as the brand ambassador for Softlogic Life, reflected on his long relationship with the country that stretches back more than four decades.

Akram first arrived in Sri Lanka in 1985 as a 17-year-old cricketer. Since then, he has returned numerous times in different roles: as an international player, commentator, and tourist. Despite travelling extensively across the globe throughout his cricket career, he said Sri Lanka remains one of his favourite destinations. During his latest visit, Akram spent several days filming a television commercial for Softlogic Life. He explained that the production took place at real locations across the country rather than in a studio, giving him an opportunity to experience some of Sri Lanka’s most scenic regions once again.

The former fast-bowling star highlighted the beauty of Galle and the central highlands, describing the landscapes as breathtaking. He heaped praise on the mountains, rivers and coastal scenery, saying the natural surroundings had left a lasting impression on him. Akram said Sri Lanka offered a unique combination of beautiful beaches, lush greenery and spectacular views that could rival any destination in the world. He expressed surprise that the country is not yet considered a leading global tourism hotspot.

Emphasizing that Sri Lanka’s beauty is truly exceptional, he said, “I have seen many places around the world, but this country stands out”. Akram also praised Softlogic Life’s achievements and leadership, while commending the large team involved in producing the company’s latest commercial. Before concluding his remarks, the cricket icon promised to visit Sri Lanka regularly, whether for work or leisure. He also revealed that exploring the island’s East Coast is high on his list for his next visit.
