Dubai (Commonwealth Union)_ Dubai is preparing to give visitors another reason to explore its famous gold market with plans to open a walkway made using 24-karat gold. The unusual attraction, expected to be launched before the end of 2026, will be located in the Dubai Gold District and is being promoted as the world’s first and longest gold walkway. The project is part of Dubai’s wider strategy to combine tourism with business opportunities and to strengthen its position as a leading international destination for gold and jewellery trading. By turning its traditional gold market into an additional tourist attraction, the city hopes to attract more visitors, traders and international investors.
According to reports, Rashid Al Harmoudi, Senior Director of the Commercial Sector at Dubai Gold District, said the walkway could open within the next two months. Visitors will be able to walk along a path featuring 24-karat gold, although officials have not yet revealed its exact length, construction cost or the amount of gold required. The announcement came during an event where Dubai secured two Guinness World Records for a pair of specially crafted gold earrings. Made in the traditional Indian jhumka style, the earrings were recognised as the heaviest pair of gold earrings and the largest pair in the world.

Dubai is also planning a major exhibition focused on gold and jewellery trading. According to Al Harmoudi, the aim is to develop it into the Middle East‘s largest trade exhibition of its kind, attracting industry professionals and international buyers. Located in Deira, the Dubai Gold District officially began operations in January 2026. It brings together businesses dealing in gold, jewellery, precious metals and wholesale trading. More than 1,000 retailers selling gold, jewellery, perfumes and cosmetics are part of the district. Business activity has also been growing. The number of wholesale gold trading offices has increased by 20 percent since the beginning of the year, while new outlets dealing in gold, jewellery, precious stones and luxury watches have risen by 15 percent.

The district is expanding its facilities to accommodate more businesses. Al Harmoudi expects the number of companies setting up operations there to increase by 10 to 20 percent over the coming year, supported by additional office and retail space. The proposed gold walkway is therefore more than a new tourist attraction. It reflects Dubai’s effort to use its historic connection with gold to promote shopping, tourism and international business. If completed as planned, the project could make the Gold District an even bigger attraction for visitors and global jewellery traders.
