Dubai (Commonwealth Union)_ An Indian-origin jewellery brand is drawing international attention with an ambitious display of craftsmanship, using a record-breaking creation to strengthen its presence in Dubai’s competitive gold market. Accordingly, Joyalukkas Jewellery has earned two Guinness World Records for Mayura Sahasra, a pair of 22-carat gold jhumkas weighing more than 16 kilograms. The oversized earrings were unveiled this week at the Jewel of Joy showroom in Dubai Gold District, turning a traditional Indian ornament into a major promotional attraction.
Measuring 1.215 metres in length and 0.682 metres in diameter, the earrings were designed around the peacock, a symbol of beauty and grace in Indian culture. Their scale sets them apart from the smaller jhumkas commonly worn at weddings and festivals. The project required 55 skilled artisans and 5,840 hours of work over several months. According to reports, Guinness World Records officially recognised the creation as both the heaviest pair of gold earrings and the largest pair of gold earrings in the world.
The unveiling ceremony attracted senior officials and jewellery industry representatives, including UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri and Joyalukkas Group chairman Dr Joy Alukkas. The presentation gave the company an opportunity to showcase its craftsmanship before an international audience. John Paul Alukkas, chief executive of Joyalukkas Jewellery, said the initiative reflected the company’s longstanding connection with Dubai and the city’s reputation as a global gold centre.

The costly creation also highlights how jewellery businesses are using distinctive products and large-scale events to generate publicity and attract customers. While Mayura Sahasra demonstrates the possibilities of elaborate gold craftsmanship, the company continues to respond to changing consumer preferences, including demand for lightweight jewellery and different gold purities. The earrings are now on permanent public display at Jewel of Joy in Dubai Gold District. With free entry, the showroom offers visitors a chance to see the record-setting creation firsthand, extending the initiative’s promotional reach beyond its launch event.
