ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CWBN)_ During an interview conducted by BBC Urdu with Maryam Nawaz, daughter of Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader, she stated that she is willing to discuss terms with the “establishment”, hinting a bypass of the standoff between the political opposition and the military.

However, Maryam maintains that discussions may only be carried out in a public setting and not behind closed doors and added that, “The army is our institution. We will definitely talk but within the limits of the Constitution. Talks will be held within the limits prescribed by the Constitution and it will be in front of the public, not in secret.”

The commentary comes as quite the revelation amidst the fact that Sharif was forcefully ousted from his position as Prime Minister and had banned his party from engaging with the notorious military wing, in September, which has been heavily influential in the governing of the country, maintaining a long history of meddling in civil affairs.

Moreover, during a separate interview, Maryam stated that she intends to expose the Pakistani Police with regard to her experiences during her judicial custody, in 2019, over a case of alleged money laundering. Maryam claims that the officers broke down her doors to arrest her and that her cell had camera, even in the bathroom.

“I’m not going to play the victim because women are not weak.” – Maryam
