BAHRAIN (CWBN)_ Formula One driver Romain Grosjean walked away with minor injuries following the horrific crash that left his car engulfed in flames, at the Bahrain Grand Prix yesterday (Nov 29).

Following some contact with Russian racing driver Daniil Kvyat, on the first lap, Grosjean veered off the track and his car ploughed into the barriers, exploding and breaking in half.

After being inside the ranging furnace for about 10-15 seconds, the Frenchman was lucid enough to find his way out, and was immediately tended to by the track side emergency services.

Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner assured Grosjean was conscious and doing okay, adding that the French driver was going through all checks necessary.

Meanwhile, Alan van der Merwe, the medical car driver, claimed that it was pretty amazing Grosjean escaped, adding that if any of the systems, the halo, the barriers or the seat belt, hadn’t worked as they should, it could have been a very different outcome.

After a lengthy break, the race eventually resumed and British racing driver, Lewis Hamilton, claimed a record-extending 95th win of his career, with Max Verstappen in second and Alex Albon in third.

Referring to Grosjean’s crash, Hamilton said he was grateful that the Frenchman escaped the accident and expressed his gratitude towards the FIA for taking necessary action to ensure he walked away safely.

“I’m so grateful Romain is safe. Wow … the risk we take is no joke, for those of you out there that forget that we put our life on the line for this sport and for what we love to do. Thankful to the FIA for the massive strides we’ve taken for Romain to walk away from that safely,” Hamilton wrote on Twitter.
