London, UK (CWBN)_ The Labour Party suspended the Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson (62), following a probe into the city’s building and development contracts which led to Anderson’s arrest over allegations of bribery and intimidation of witnesses.

The Merseyside Police declared that it had arrested five men in connection to the dealings, including a 62-year-old man from Old Swan, Liverpool referencing Anderson. However, the mayor’s office has neither declared nor denied the arrest.

“Liverpool City Council is co-operating with Merseyside Police in relation to its ongoing investigation. We do not comment on matters relating to individuals,” they stated.

While Anderson has been serving as mayor only since 2012, he has been a member of the local council for many years before, having joined in 1998.
