London, UK (CWBN)_ Negotiations for a Brexit trade deal were discussed till late last night (06-12-20), in Brussels, however British negotiators have declared that they are unwilling to budge over the token issue concerning fisheries.

“There’s been no breakthrough on fish. Nothing new has been achieved on this today.” UK sources said.

Nonetheless, their EU counterparts have contradicted the statement, claiming that a deal allowing EU fishermen in to UK waters is almost finalized. It is expected that the deal would involve a 200 miles economic zone that would be gradually implemented in stages over the course of 5-7 years.

Provided that latter is the likely outcome, it would leave two key points of interest, maintenance of a fair and competitive market, and the regulation of the agreement.

In terms of regulation, the EU has insisted that the UK would be required to adhere to certain EU standard and authorities in order to finalize the deal. However, this has developed to one of the most contentious issues revolving around the Brexit trade deal, with the British government calling for a “level playing field”.
