AUCKLAND, New Zealand (CWBN)_Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the government will issue some initial responses to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Christchurch mosque attacks, when the report is tabled at Parliament tomorrow (Dec 08).
“As part of the tabling process, the government will release some very initial responses to the findings and recommendations … some of the recommendations will take a longer time for us to develop a response to,” she said.
Moreover, Ardern said that a “coordinating minister” will be appointed to ensure the implementation of these recommendations. The Prime Minister, who met with the Muslim community yesterday, acknowledged that they (the Muslim community) wish to see accountability when implementing the findings of the report, and assured that the government will provide these interested parties with information on how the findings will be coordinated.
Given the release of the report tomorrow, which very much revisits the tragedy of 15 March 2019, followed by the anniversary of the Whakaari / White Island eruption on Wednesday (Dec 9), Ardern acknowledged this as a week of heartache for New Zealand.
On December 9 last year, the volcanic island Whakaari / White Island in New Zealand’s north-eastern Bay of Plenty region explosively erupted, killing 22 people, while a further 25 people suffered injuries.
The Prime Minister will be in Whakatāne on Wednesday to mark the one-year anniversary of the devastating eruption.
