French President Macron tests positive for COVID-19

PARIS (CWBN)_ French president Emmanuel Macron has tested positive for COVID-19, the President’s office announced today (Dec 17).

“The President of the Republic has been diagnosed positive for Covid-19 today,” the Elysee Palace said in a statement.

It noted that Macron underwent an RTPCR test as soon as the first symptoms appeared, although the statement did not detail the specific symptoms the President experienced.

It added that Macron will isolate himself for 7 days, during which, he would continue to carry out his work and responsibilities remotely. The office said that French Prime Minister Jean Castex will also self-isolate.

However, no details have been provided on any contract tracing efforts, as Macron attended the European Union Summit last week, and also met with Portugal’s prime minister Antonio Costa on Wednesday (DEC 16).

France reported 17,615 new COVID-19 infections and 289 fatalities on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases to more than 2.4 million and 59,361 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
