NEW DELHI (CU)_During the ongoing session of the UN Human Rights Council, India countered remarks made by Pakistan, Turkey and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) regarding the human rights situation in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K).
Exercising its right of reply, India slammed the comments made by Turkey, noting that it’s ironical for a country which has “trampled upon its own civil society” to interfere with and comment on internal matters of other countries. As Ankara called on India to resolve the situation in J&K as per UNSC Resolutions, the South Asian country noted that in the Turkey should “practice what it preaches”, possibly hinting on the Middle Eastern nation’s ongoing dispute with Cyprus.
Furthermore, New Delhi rejected the “factually incorrect and unwarranted” references made by the OIC, expressing its disappointment that member states of the Organisation continue to allow Pakistan to misuse their platform to indulge in anti-India propaganda.
During the session, India also responded to the remarks made by Pakistan in particular, claiming that the neighbouring country has been “the home and patron to the largest number of internationally prescribed terrorist entities and individuals in the world”.
Indian diplomat Seema Pujani referred to the recent acquittal of Omar Saeed Sheikh, al-Qaeda terrorist and murderer of American journalist Daniel Pearl by the Pakistani Supreme Court, as a clear example of Islamabad’s close relations with such entities.
Recalling the United States’ description of the incident as “an affront to terrorism victims everywhere”, Pujani requested the UNHRC to call upon the Pakistani government to implement satisfactory measures to end state-sponsored terrorism and dismantle terrorist infrastructure within its territory.
