Islamabad, Pakistani (CU)_ Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan tested positive for coronavirus. As a result, he was quarantined at home. The Pakistani Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Health Services, Faisal Sultan, shared the news on Twitter. He wrote, “PM Imran Khan has tested positive for Covid-19 and is self-isolating at home”.

In response to this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and wished Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan a fast recovery after his coronavirus test came back positive on Saturday. He tweeted, “Best wishes to Prime Minister Imran Khan for a speedy recovery from COVID 19”.

Mr Khan is 68 years old and has been busy conducting meetings in recent times without proper safety measures. He was seen multiple times without wearing mask. He was jabbed with the vaccine on Thursday. However, the vaccines take some time to generate immune response. Mr Khan had tried to maintain good relationship with India since taking office as Pakistan’s Prime Minister in 2018. New Delhi, on the other hand, had criticized him for failing to monitor cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan.

The relation between Mr Khan and the ruling BJP and PM Narendra Modi has been strained, particularly after the terror attack in Pulwama, which claimed the lives of 40 Indian soldiers in the line of duty. On Twitter, Mr Khan frequently criticizes Prime Minister Modi on a variety of issues, such as the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and the division of the former state into two Union Territories. India insists that its decision in Kashmir is purely domestic.

The number of people infected with the coronavirus in Pakistan has surpassed 6.15 lakh, with 13,700 deaths. The Punjab province of Pakistan is home to the majority of the new cases. China has been the key source of health supplies and vaccines for Pakistan. Under the United Global Alliance for Vaccinations and Immunization, or GAVI, which is a public-private global health initiative to improve access to immunization in developing countries, Pakistan will soon receive coronavirus vaccines from India.
