Boris Johnson aims to announce resumption of international flights to UK by April

The United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson has made claims that he will be announcing the plans of the resumption of international flights by the 5th of April which is one week earlier than it was planned by the task force report on travel is due.

It was in a televised news and media conference that Mr. Johnson made an attempt to temper expectations even though warned that “things certainly look difficult for the time being” due to a “third wave” in coronavirus infections in several European countries.

The British government is not looking to take any risks and stated in February that the United Kingdom could possibly look into opening their borders for international travel from the 17th of May at the earliest. The global travel task force had been set to send in a report by the 12th of April if this a go or not, but Prime Minister Johnson stated that “I certainly hope to be saying some more by April 5th.”

Prime Minister Johnson has been and is still under increasing pressure from the airline industry to set up and give them a firm plan for the starting of flights. It is the upcoming summer months that are the most crucial for the airlines all across Europe when revenue is typically high as people are on holiday and they tend to travel more.

Many if not most of Boris Johnson’s own conservative colleagues would like to and want to see the airline and travel sector unlocked as soon as possible, this is also because almost more than half of the UK adults have already received the vaccination. Since there was a spike in cases in the recent past in the continent can only mean that these plans may have to be pushed back.

Prime Minister Johnson said that “There is another wave building on the European continent amongst our friends, we will see it wash up onto our shores, I have no doubt.” With this he also pledged to protect the United Kingdom against the new variant of Covid that has been found.

The members of the parliament are set to place their vote on renewing the Coronavirus Act. This Act was brought in last year to enshrine and solidify the first lockdown. Prime Minister Johnson will face rebellion for a few Conservatives on extending the restrictions.
