LONDON (CU)_ Prince Harry has returned to the United Kingdom on Sunday (11 April) to attend the funeral of his late grandfather, The Duke of Edinburgh, but was not accompanied by his wife Meghan Markel.
This is the first time Prince Harry meets with the members of the Royal Family since the bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey last month. Meanwhile, his wife the Duchess of Sussex is expecting their second child and therefore the 12-hour flight from California was deemed potentially too taxing for her.
Prince Philip, who died just months before his 100th birthday, is the longest-serving consort of any British monarch. He had been married to Queen Elizabeth II for 73 years, before he died on Friday morning at Windsor Castle, with his wife by his bedside. It was a last wish that came true, since a royal source told The New York Post that the Duke wanted to die in the comforts of his home, and not in a hospital bed.
His funeral will take place on Saturday (17 April), although there will be no state funeral owing to current Coronavirus regulations in England. For this reason, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also decided to opt out in order to make room for as many family members as possible, as regulations only permit 30 people to attend the service later this week.
His Royal Highness was admitted to the hospital in February, for a heart surgery, following which he was released in mid-March. Sources claim that during his time at King Edward VII Hospital, the Duke told his eldest son Prince Charles to care for The Queen when he was gone.
Earlier on Saturday, gun salutes were fired across the UK, in Gibraltar and at sea, in memory of Prince Philip, who was a senior official of the navy before his marriage to The Queen.
