Mumbai, India (CU)_ Earth Day is commemorated every year on April 22. The special day is celebrated to thank Mother Earth and to create awareness on the importance of protecting the nature, climate and life. With deteriorating climate crisis, Earth Day became more significant today. Earth Day connects millions of people by allowing all stakeholders to raise awareness and collaborate on important issues such as global warming, pollution, deforestation, etc. Earthday.org is encouraging people to take part in the massive initiatives to protect the planet. Earth Day was renamed as ‘environmental campaign’ in 1990 which partnered with over 75,000 collaborators in 192 countries to drive sustainable action for our world.

The theme of 2021 Earth Day is ‘Restore Our Earth’. “The theme Restore Our Earth focuses on natural processes and emerging green technologies that can restore the world’s ecosystems. In this way, the theme rejects the notion that mitigation or adaptation are the only way to address climate change.”

Since 1970, April 22 has been designated as Earth Day. From April 20 to 22, there will be a three-day workshop addressing all facets of climate action. A number of environmental issues are to be addressed this year, despite the ongoing pandemic. According to earthday.org, the following subjects will be discussed at the digital event on Wednesday. The subjects are environmental literacy and climate change, technologies for restoring the climate, attempts to reforest, Agriculture that is regenerative, environmental justice and equity, cleanups, and citizen science.
