Jersey may be in the dark if Britain doesn’t compromise

LONDON (CU)_The government of France has warned that it may cut its electricity supply to Jersey, as part of the retaliatory measures under the post-Brexit trade agreement between the UK and the EU.

Speaking to her fellow lawmakers at the French parliament, Maritime Minister Annick Girardin said the rules governing access to the territorial waters of the Channel Islands were unreasonable. Therefore, she noted that France is ready to take retaliatory measures, including a potential interruption to the supply of power to the largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey, which receives 95 per cent of its electricity from France.

“I am sorry it has come to this [but] we will do so if we have to,” she said.
