PERTH (CU)_Given the recent revival in global interest on sustainable development, most major carmakers are accelerating their EV production capability. As a result, experts say that the global demand for neodymium praseodymium oxide (NdPr) will triple to about 90,000 tonnes a year by the end of this decade. Apart from fuelling electric vehicles, NdPr is also used in magnets to power wind turbines and even mobile phones. However, with some major countries involved in the industry, such as China, setting targets to achieve net zero carbon emissions at least by 2060, many governments and industries are on a frantic mission to secure sustainable supplies.
