Strengthening victims to start ‘a chapter of hope’

KINGSTON (CU)_More than three decades ago, Woman Inc. was founded in Kingston, Jamaica, with the aim of strengthening the social and economic position of women and girls in the Caribbean island through education, legislative advocacy and raising public awareness. On Thursday (19 August), the organisation achieved a major milestone in its efforts to provide a safe space for victims of gender-based violence through the establishment of a shelter for abused women. The facility is collaborative effort between Woman’s Inc., the British High Commission, the Woman’s Leadership Initiative and the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, with the financial assistance of the Embassy of Japan, which made an investment of $14 million in the project.
