New York, USA (CU)_ In a comparative analysis of all three licensed coronavirus vaccines in the United States, researchers discovered that the Moderna vaccine is marginally more efficacious than Pfizer’s in preventing hospitalizations in real-world use, while Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine ranks third with 71% protection. Pfizer vaccination was 88 percent effective in preventing hospitalization, whereas Moderna’s vaccine was 93 percent efficacious. Between March and August, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted a national immunization trial with over 3,600 individuals hospitalized for COVID-19.
The study mainly focused on three major vaccines namely, Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, Moderna vaccine and Janssen vaccine. According to the CDC’s weekly report on death and disease, the MMWR, it said, “Among U.S. adults without immunocompromising conditions, vaccine effectiveness against COVID-19 hospitalization during March 11- August 15, 2021, was higher for the Moderna vaccine (93%) than the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine (88%) and the Janssen vaccine (71%). Although these real-world data suggest some variation in levels of protection by vaccine, all FDA-approved or authorized COVID-19 vaccines provide substantial protection against COVID-19 hospitalization.”
