Canada hospital performs rare surgery to prevent lymphedema

British Columbia, Canada (CU)_ A hospital in Surrey, British Columbia, will be the first in the country to conduct a type of microsurgery that aids in the prevention of lymphedema, which is a chronic disease that affects a large proportion of cancer patients. The Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre received the first ultra-high magnification microscope and a new camera system in the province earlier this month, both of which are essential to execute the complicated vascularized lymph node transfer (VLNT) surgery.
