Plans to position India’s manufacturing sector as a global leader

NEW DELHI (CU)_India’s Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal participated in a virtual discussion with textile machinery manufacturers on Sunday (25 October). During the meeting, the Minister called on the participants to develop 100 globally recognized “textile machinery champions” focused on skill, scale and speed.

In this address, Goyal reaffirmed New Delhi’s commitment to expand the country’s manufacturing sector through the National Capital Goods Policy. The scheme, approved by the cabinet in 2016, aims to expand employment opportunities in the industry from 8.4 million in 2014-15, to 30 million by 2025. Accordingly, the minister revealed that the federal government intends to support local manufacturers to scale up their operations in order to make the manufacturing sector a ₹7.5-trillion industry by 2025.
